Deu Brink

Tutor

Deu is an independent contractor and choreographer originally from the Whangaparaoa Peninsula. Deu trained in classical Ballet with Fusion Dance Studio and Mount Eden Ballet Academy (MEBA) where she completed the RAD syllabus whilst maintaining distinction in all her vocational examinations. She was fortunate enough to receive further coaching from Pauline Tronson-Germon intermittently 2015-2017.

At Fusion Dance Studio Deu successfully completed her studies in NZAMD Jazz (2017), IDTA Tap (2014), NZAMD Tap (2016), and NZAMD Contemporary (2017) with Rosanne Howes, Rebekkah Schoonbeek, and Ann Dewey. In 2014 Deu received the International Dance Teachers Association national tap award. She is the youngest New Zealander to have attained this achievement.

In 2016 Deu took part in her first professional contract with Amici Trust at the Auckland Civic Centre. Combining her ballet and musical theatre she was the youngest company member in the performance season The Phantom of the Opera. Furthermore, Deu received NZAMD Scholarship nominations for jazz, tap and contemporary. She was selected as a finalist across all three disciplines and placed 3 rd for both jazz and contemporary.

In 2017 she was once again an NZAMD scholarship recipient, and was placed 3 rd for jazz, and placed 1st place in contemporary. Deu took part in the Kairos workshop where she received a monetary scholarship and received offers to further her training internationally at institutions such as Ev and Bow (Australia), J. Colemans Ministry of Dance (Australia), the Edge (America), and Commonality Dance Company (America). In November 2017 Deu successfully auditioned for the contemporary programmes at New Zealand School of Dance and Unitec. Deu started her tertiary training in Wellington, at the New Zealand School of Dance in 2018. In 2020 she graduated with a major in contemporary dance. During her time studying she found her passion for anatomy, pilates and yoga.

Within the last five years, Deu has worked with a variety of acclaimed national and international choreographers such as Adam Barruch, Raewyn Hill, and James O’Hara. She was also given the opportunity to be involved in developmental processes with companies including Okareka, Footnote New Zealand Dance, Movement of the Human (MOTH), and World of Wearable Art (WOW). Deu has gained an accumulation of repertoire including works such as “Belle” by Malia Johnston, “Re: Structure” by Ross McCormack, “Be Your Self” by Garry Stewart (staged by Daniel Jaber), and “Rising” by Tor Columbus. Deu has tutored and choreographed for emerging artists in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Israel, England, and America. She has former students that are studying at pre-professional institutions including the New Zealand School of Dance, Unitec, Sydney Dance Company PPY, and Rambert School. This year Deu will be working with the New Zealand Youth Ballet Company whilst continuing her studies towards her Bachelor of Musculoskeletal Health (Osteopathy). Deu is excited to be working with the next generation of dancers and hopes to observe and aid their development as dance artists as well as individual humans.
