Josiah Russell brings a wealth of experience and passion to the New Zealand Youth Ballet Company (NZYBC) as the Academic Dean and Tutor. With a dynamic background in both education and leadership, Josiah's commitment to nurturing the next generation of dancers is at the heart of his work. He is also a Director, alongside his wife Olivia, of Convergence Dance Studios, Dance Masters International, Dance Outreach New Zealand, and NZYBC, having established CDS as a Private Training Establishment (PTE) in 2024.
Before his role at NZYBC, Josiah spent a decade as a high school educator, serving as Head of Faculty for Physical Education, Outdoor Education, and Health Education. His creative journey also includes a foundation in Fine Arts, where he taught senior art and photography. His multifaceted expertise extends beyond the classroom, as he directed a Youth Trust supporting youth workers, an Alternative Education school, and youth programs across the East and Selwyn Districts.
Josiah's professional path has even seen him work as a builder, bringing a unique hands-on perspective to his leadership roles. Today, he continues to inspire and mentor as an Associate Pastor at Harmony Church, contributing to both the spiritual and creative development of a growing congregation of people. His diverse background and dedication to excellence make him a pivotal figure in shaping NZYBC’s future.
